CTBC Foundation for Arts and Culture is committed to promoting art and culture, showcasing a collection of paintings that represent the modern and contemporary art history of Taiwan. The exhibition featured the paintings by Wang Pan-Youn and Chang Kuang-Bin from the collection of CTBC Bank, and Su Huang-Sheng’s work from the foundation’s collection. Wang Pan-Youn’s To Wish combines the texture of oil painting with the airy and fluid qualities of watercolor also incorporates imagery reminiscent of traditional ink painting. Chang Kuang-Bin employs techniques such as “scattered-dot cùn” and “ordered-dot cùn” to depict landscapes in his ink-on-paper works An Ancient Road in-between Two Creeks, The Echo in the Mountain Valley, and A Landscape of Deep Gullies and High Cliffs. In the last, the recipient of Merit Award of the inaugural CTBC Painting Prize, Su Huang-Sheng, presents his ink and mineral pigment on silk work Cherish Every Moment Before Tonight. This piece reflects the innovative interpretation of traditional media by young artists, distilling it into his distinctive artistic vocabulary.

Hong Foundation

The Hong Foundation has invited artist Hsien-Yu Cheng, the recipient of the Tung Chung Prize 2019, to turn the entire booth into a trap with an ulterior motive: as potential collectors step into this white space, the artwork’s mechanism is triggered, initiating the choices of trading. Within this international art trading platform, which involves artists, galleries, and collectors, Cheng Hsien-Yu assigns the power of “pricing” to all participants. This act of pricing compels every individual within the artwork to reconsider the exchange value of various resources such as time, art, and freedom. The booth itself becomes a work called Credit Makes You Free, extending the reflection on the art trading mechanism in the art trading platform.

Since its founding in 1971, the Hong Foundation had invested in promoting education and fostering culture in the fields of literature, history, philosophy and music. After 2000, the foundation broadens its scope to contemporary art. Through commissions and direct sponsorships, the foundation provides sponsorship programs of varying scales to artists working at various stages of their careers, continuing its mission to energize the art ecosystem.

Before Thunders: An Exhibition of Taiwanese Artists|

For the first time, Taipei Dangdai Art & Ideas will present a curated exhibition within the fair co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture. Titled “Before Thunders: An Exhibition of Taiwanese Artists”, the exhibition focuses on the work of a dozen largely mid-career artists selected by four curators who will participate in the Ideas Forum 2024: Zian Chen, Martin Germann, Esther Lu, and Wong Binghao. This project supports the fair’s core goal of bringing art from Taiwan from across the spectrum—from those represented by the leading galleries participating in the fair to those working largely outside the market—to greater international attention and demonstrates the fair’s ongoing interest in building partnerships with public and private organizations throughout Taiwan’s vibrant art scene.
